What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mind-body approach to well being that can help change the way you perceive experiences thereby reducing stress and anxiety. In our fast-paced modern world, we are constantly bombarded with information deadlines and high expectation. We live under these pressures, however, we can often cause ourselves extra stress by the unhelpful, habitual patterns of thinking which accompany our daily life. These kinds of reactions tend to escalate and before we know it we are on a downward spiral of despair.

Mindfulness helps us deal with stressful situations by continually coming back to the present moment, our bodily sensations and our breath, the Now. So you may be still having to meet a deadline, stuck in a traffic jam and be inundated by emails but that is ALL. You don’t have to cope with all the unhelpful thoughts which increase our stress as well!

Mindfulness helps us to tap into our inner stillness it helps change our relationship to our problems, as Jon Kabat-Zinn says “ You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf”
